Gremma

About the company

Gremma consists of the acrobats Gracie and Emma who believe that the discipline of the hula hoop needs to be developed. When contemporary circus made its entrance, enormous strides were made for circus as an art form, but the hula hoop was left behind. A traditional view holds that it is feminine and sexualized. Gremma wants to change that view with a feminist perspective, to desexualize the hula hoop and elevate its status as a contemporary circus discipline.

About the performance

What happens when two completely different hula hoop styles merge? What will be the result? That is the question the two acrobats in Gremma are trying to answer. Gracie incorporates handstanding and acrobatics, while Emma uses juggling and object manipulation in her work. Together they work with themes such as synchronicity and connectivity – constantly linked together by their intertwined hair.
