MIRA RAVALD & LUIS SARTORI DO VALE | PORTMANTEAU
Purpose of the work in progress presentation: To promote and give visibility to the project. To make contact with professionals with the aim of finding future partners and pre-buyers for the performance. It’s also a good opportunity to get some professional feedback about the work, nourishing the continuation of the creative process.
A Portmanteau is a linguistic blend of words, in which parts of multiple words are combined into a new one. Exploring connections and interactions, Portmanteau creates poetic encounters and disencounters between different people, actions, images and art forms. Making use of old overhead projectors manipulated live and playing with images projected on the space and on moving bodies, Portmanteau combines circus, dance, music and visual arts.
In Portmanteau, the Brazilian visual/circus artist Luis Sartori do Vale and the Finnish dancer/circus artist Mira Ravald work together for the first time, in collaboration with the light designer Jere Mönkkönen and the musician Antonio Alemanno. Together, they are interested in exploring the dialogue between different art concepts, forms and techniques, in a constant research for new and poetic aesthetics inside the performing arts.
